Since being hospitalized in August with an extremely elevated level of lead in his blood, 4-year-old Michael Byrd Jr. has not been able to live in the rental house on Halifax Street in Petersburg where his mother and two siblings still reside. His mother, Shate Cummings, is trying to find a home that they can all move to, but for now her younger son is living with his father in Colonial Heights. “I have custody, but they wouldn’t release him out of the hospital to me with me still being in this house,” she said.
