Afghan hospital attack: US military personnel suspended after violating rules of engagement in Kunduz

US soldiers and airmen who killed dozens of civilians in a strike on an Afghan hospital violated the rules of engagement and have been suspended as they await disciplinary action, military officials said. General John Campbell, the US commander in Afghanistan, described a series of human and technical failures as he briefed reporters on two investigations into why a US warplane mistakenly destroyed the hospital last month.
